As a volunteer with Ambulance Wish Singapore, I’ve been part of many special moments, but Mr Cheng’s 81st birthday wish was one I’ll always hold close to my heart. It was more than just a staycation at Marina Bay Sands—it was a day filled with love, joy, and the kindness of so many coming together to celebrate a life well-lived.
From the moment Mr Cheng and his family arrived, you could see his excitement. He told me how he and his wife often admired MBS while driving past, dreaming of what it would be like to visit. Seeing that dream come true on his 81st birthday was incredibly emotional.
The surprises started as soon as he stepped into his Sands Bay 2-Bedroom Suite on the 30th floor. His reaction to the curated balloon decorations, the birthday cake, the breathtaking city skyline view, and a heartfelt handwritten card from the MBS Premium Service Team was priceless.
“This is more than I ever imagined.”

After settling in, the family enjoyed a sumptuous high tea at the Club Lounge. Mr. Cheng couldn’t stop raving about the pastries! But the real highlight for him was the SkyPark Observation Deck. Watching him quietly take in the 360-degree view of the city, I saw the happiness written all over his face. “Even more beautiful than I imagined,” he said softly, a smile spreading across his face.
The Infinity Pool was another dream fulfilled. As he lounged on a beach chair, surrounded by his family, the casual laughter and conversations made it feel like time stood still. It was a moment of pure joy—a reminder of the simple, meaningful connections that make life so beautiful.
The day continued with a leisurely stroll through the MBS Shoppes, where Mr. Cheng’s family captured playful photos, including one outside the casino, “to feel rich,” as they joked. Dinner at Putien was another highlight, where the staff arranged a special surprise. Seeing the chef roll out a trolley of longevity buns and fruit, accompanied by the team singing for him, was a moment I’ll never forget.
Back in his room, Mr. Cheng ended the night watching the Spectra Light & Water Show from his window. To him, this wasn’t just a staycation; it was a celebration of family, love, and the beauty of life.
I feel so privileged to have witnessed such an intimate and meaningful occasion. It was heartwarming to see how AWS volunteers, MBS’s Premium Service Team, Putien’s incredible staff, and our wonderful photographer worked together to make this day truly unforgettable.
To Mr. Cheng and his family, thank you for letting me be part of your celebration. It’s moments like these that remind us of the importance of love, togetherness, and making every day count.
“A toast to 81 years of happiness and countless blessings ahead.”
