Mdm Ong’s life has been one of sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. From a very young age, she worked tirelessly, taking on whatever jobs were available to put food on the table. She hawked cooked food, cleaned factories, sewed bags and shoes, fried youtiao, and even worked as a water transporter during wartime years. As the sole provider, she carried the weight of the household on her shoulders, raising four children while faithfully caring for her ill husband. Her own needs were always placed last.

At 97 years old, when her children are grown and already established in their own career, Mdm Ong was unfortunately diagnosed with a metastatic tumour and an unfavourable prognosis. Looking back, her life has been almost entirely devoted to her family. There was little time for personal pursuits, little space for herself. But the one joy she still held close was her love for flowers. It was this that shaped her wish to visit Gardens by the Bay with her family.

On the 16th of December 2025, that wish came true. Throughout the day, smiles lit up Mdm Ong’s face as she took in the beauty and festive Christmas atmosphere all around the Flower Dome. Surrounded by her loved ones, she was never left unattended. A family member was always watching over her with tenderness and care. It was deeply moving to witness just how loved and cherished she is by her family.

The day ended with a seafood lunch. It brought comfort to everyone to see her appetite return as she enjoyed fish skin crackers, fried fish, and a sweet mango dessert. These pleasures, when shared, became precious memories for the family.
We—volunteers Chan Kong Hoe, Tan Jing Le, and Genevieve Lee Jie Yin—are humbled and grateful to have played a small part in creating a day filled with meaning, love, and lasting memories for Mdm Ong and her family. Special thanks to Gardens by the Bay for their support in making this wish possible.
