As a trained marine engineer, Mr Rasmussen Ole Prytz travelled extensively throughout his life and spent many years working at sea. An experienced sailor, he also piloted his own boat in open waters during his younger days. Outside of sailing, he had a soft spot for animals and once cared for a stray cat that he had taken in.

Working closely with his daughter, who is also his main caregiver, we planned an outing that would reconnect Mr Rasmussen with some of the experiences and environments that had once been an important part of his life.

Before heading to the main destination, we arranged a surprise stop at a cat café specially for him. It did not take long for the cats to gather around Mr Rasmussen, many of them approaching him almost immediately. He appeared genuinely delighted by the interaction, spending time observing and engaging with the animals in a calm and natural manner.

The outing continued at the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, where Mr Rasmussen visibly brightened upon arriving at the marina. A staff member led a tour of the yacht berths, allowing him to see the boats up close and spend time by the sea again. Surrounded by the familiar sights and sounds of the waterfront, Mr Rasmussen appeared comfortable and in his element.
Following the tour, the family gathered at the club’s café for dinner during sunset. Mr Rasmussen enjoyed his favourite beverage together with roti prata, which the restaurant manager kindly arranged after his spontaneous request. The meal provided an opportunity for him to relax and enjoy the evening in the company of his loved ones.

As a fan of classic Western films, Mr Rasmussen was also presented with a cowboy hat as a keepsake of the outing, along with a cat plushie to commemorate his earlier visit to the cat café.
We thank Nicole Peng from HCA Hospice for referring this wish to Ambulance Wish Singapore. Lead wish-granter Chan Kong Hoe was joined by fellow volunteers Bryan Ang Beng Kian, Tng Ban Poh, and Yeo Siew Khim in making this outing possible.
