Mr Phua Siew Yong, 73, was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and an unfavourable prognosis. Despite his condition, he remains ever so cheerful and always ready with a story. His wish was simply to spend a day outside together with his wife, his two sons, and their wives.
Never too old for romance
On Wish Day, the family of six was whisked away to Mandai Wildlife Reserve for a discovery tour and lunch at Bird Paradise. The day began with a tender surprise when Mr Phua presented his wife with a bouquet of roses, a moment that brought smiles all around.
Mr Phua’s family will always have his back
Led by our guide, Joey, the family strolled through the park, laughing and bonding as they fed hornbills and enjoyed close encounters with other fascinating birds.
Chuckles and tears while walking down memory lane
While enjoying lunch, the family was presented with a touching surprise in the form of a video montage filled with photos of Mr Phua’s younger days, his wedding, and his sons growing up. As the memories played on screen, the family shared their moments of joy, laughter, and quiet tears of love.
What an honour to witness the Phuas’ strong family connection!
The day ended with a stop at the Ocean Network Express Penguin Cove, featuring the cute creatures known for their lifelong bonds. Watching them together felt symbolic, a reminder of the enduring love that Mr Phua and his family share.
