A New Chapter at Rivervale: Mdm Zubeda’s Moving Day Wish

Moving house is never easy, especially when you are doing it alone. For Mdm Zubeda, a kind-hearted elderly lady who is bedridden and lives far away from her family, the thought of moving to her new home at Rivervale felt overwhelming. Though her helper did her best, the task was too big to manage alone. Instead, dedicated volunteers Irene, Trishala, Jia Hong, Sheen, Alvin, and Jocelyn from Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS) transformed what could have been a daunting and lonely experience into a heartwarming reminder of the strength of community and compassion.

A Heartfelt Birthday Surprise and Moving Day Support

On the first visit, it was the eve of Mdm Zubeda’s birthday and the AWS team bought her a cake to celebrate her birthday. This simple gesture brightened her day and brought a joyful smile to her face before the big move.

When moving day arrived, the volunteers gathered early to help her pack her belongings into boxes. They chatted with Mdm Zubeda, shared laughs, and listened to her stories, making sure she felt included every step of the way.

Transforming a New Space into a Sanctuary

Upon arriving at the new residence in Rivervale, the team worked together to arrange the furniture exactly to her preference. They made sure her essentials were easily accessible and helped with some unpacking, transforming the unfamiliar space into a cosy, comfortable sanctuary.

Mdm Zubeda’s heartfelt thank you

Mdm Zubeda was deeply moved by the transition. With tears in her eyes, she expressed her gratitude to the volunteers for providing more than just physical help; they provided her with kindness, dignity, and love.

A Housewarming to Remember: Building a Family of the Heart

Two weeks later, the AWS team returned – this time not with boxes, but with warmth, food, and friendship. They hosted a simple housewarming gathering, bringing snacks, gifts, and smiles. As a surprise, they presented Mdm Zubeda with a beautiful photo collage – a collection of snapshots capturing moments from the move.

In helping her start this new chapter, the volunteers did more than provide physical support. They reminded Mdm Zubeda that even in the absence of family, a community can step in to become a family of the heart.
