There’s a kind of love that does not need grand gestures – only the quiet, unwavering companionship of someone who walks beside you through every season of life. For Mdm Ng Peck Hoon, turning 60 this National Day was not just a milestone, it was a celebration of a bond that time only deepened.
Mdm Ng once worked near Market Street in her younger days, back when The Fullerton Hotel had not even been built yet. So, for her 60th birthday, which falls in the same week as Singapore’s 60th birthday (SG60), her wish was to finally experience a buffet lunch at The Fullerton Hotel with the love of her life, Mr Wong, followed by a visit to Gardens by the Bay; places they had always heard about but never explored. This wish was about creating a beautiful memory together.
A Fullerton First and Precious Moments
The couple’s love story is full of simple joys: exploring every corner of Singapore in search of good food and laughing at Mr Wong’s endless jokes. Even now, with Mdm Ng’s mobility limited to a motorised wheelchair, their bond remains unshakable.
Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS) volunteers, Jo-ann, Wei Yen, Yiu Woon, and Shan Shan, skillfully put the day together, starting with a seamless pick-up in a wheelchair-friendly vehicle arranged by partners at MedicalAssistance4U. As they approached the hotel, Mdm Ng’s excitement grew; her face lit up as she pointed out familiar landmarks.
At Town Restaurant, manager Alvin and Rellee went above and beyond. They arranged a cosy corner for the couple and surprised them with a pair of signature Fullerton bears engraved with their initials – a touching gesture that immediately brought smiles. When the birthday cake arrived, Mdm Ng was moved beyond words.
Orchids, Surprises, and Chilli Crab
At Gardens by the Bay, the couple were given matching gifts by the volunteers and a breathtaking bouquet of lilies and orchids, which were Mdm Ng’s favourites, provided by Hello Flowers. The highlight was Amby, the Ambulance Wish Singapore bear, representing love and companionship, placed gently into Mdm Ng’s hands.
The couple stepped into the Flower Dome’s “Orchid Extravaganza”, drawing admiration from fellow visitors who stopped to wish Mdm Ng a happy birthday. To close the day, the volunteers revealed a giant birthday poster from partners at Paxix Party filled with heartfelt wishes from everyone who made the day possible.
As the sun began to set, a final surprise was quietly arranged, a chilli crab dinner delivered to their home, allowing them to end their memorable wish experience just the way they like it: together.
