On January 19, 2025, volunteers from Ambulance Wish Singapore came together to fulfill the heartfelt wish of 74-year-old Mdm Tan Bak Eem. With only days left, she longed for a fresh haircut, a touch of makeup, and a cherished family photoshoot.
Within hours, a team of dedicated volunteers sprang into action. After Alfred gently trimmed her hair, a family member enhanced her natural beauty with light makeup, bringing a soft glow to her face.
Meanwhile, Kezia, Caral and Ethan transformed a private hospital room into a cozy Lunar New Year celebration, complete with festive banners, yúshēng (prosperity salad), warm rice balls, and drinks. Gladys delivered the bouquet of Mdm Tan’s favorite pink and purple tulips.
Her family arrived, surprised and grateful for the thoughtful setup. Mdm Tan had hoped to be home for the festivities, but fate had other plans. Instead, her children and grandchildren gathered around her hospital bed for family portraits, tossing yúshēng and exchanging blessings. Bathed in love, her eyes shone with quiet joy, the moment forever captured in photographs.
It was more than just a celebration—it was a farewell filled with warmth, dignity, and the embrace of those she loved most.
A Final Gathering, A Lasting Memory
In the quiet room where time stands still,
A wish is heard, a heart to fill.
A gentle trim, a loving gaze,
A portrait set in golden rays.
With family near, with hands held tight,
A family gathering, in auspicious light.
Laughter soft, yet echoes stay,
Love unbroken, come what may.
A wish fulfilled, a moment bright,
A life embraced in fading light.
