When Mr Mahadi was diagnosed with cancer, his time for creating new memories with his family became precious. Much of his journey was spent in hospital, limiting opportunities for cherished moments together. This urgency underscores the profound need for wish granting.
Fortunately, Advanced Practice Nurse Stella from the Palliative Care Team recognised the importance of quality time and explored meaningful activities Mr Mahadi had previously enjoyed. One particularly fond memory was their tradition of visiting Orchard Road to admire the Christmas lights together.
A Special Evening Under the Christmas Lights
Understanding the urgency of the situation, a dedicated team of Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS) volunteer nurses from Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Ward 48 swiftly organised a special outing to ION Orchard on the evening of 17 December. Before the excursion, they ensured Mr Mahadi looked and felt his best with a fresh haircut and shave, a thoughtful touch to enhance this memorable wish experience.
With the compassionate assistance of ION Orchard staff and the ambulance crew, Mr Mahadi was safely escorted to the Christmas light display. The moment he arrived, his transformation was remarkable—his spirits lifted visibly as he embraced his loved ones, sharing heartfelt hugs and kisses.
Creating Lasting Memories
The evening became a profoundly moving experience for everyone present. The festive lights provided a beautiful backdrop for a family creating their final memories together, capturing moments of joy and connection that would become especially precious in the days to come.
Shortly after this special outing, Mr Mahadi returned home to spend his final days surrounded by his loving family. He passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories, including this final Christmas celebration made possible by community care and compassion.
Ambulance Wish Singapore is grateful to the medical team at SGH Ward 48, ION Orchard staff, and all volunteers who helped create this meaningful experience for Mr Mahadi and his family.
