Undiminished Love: Mr Chan’s Heart-Warming Reunion at Singapore Bird Paradise

Beneath the golden glow of the morning sun, amidst lush greenery and the cheerful calls of tropical birds, an unforgettable reunion unfolded at Singapore Bird Paradise for Mr Chan and his family.

At 86-years-old, Mr Chan faced a grim prognosis. Since his hospitalisation, he had not returned home and deeply missed his loved ones and his cherished nature walks, especially those shared with his wife. Yet through it all, he held onto one profound wish: an outing with his loved ones to the Singapore Bird Paradise.

A Powerful Embrace

On 24 March 2025, that wish became reality. In a setting as vibrant and full of life as their enduring love, the couple was finally reunited. As family members gently wheeled Mrs Chan into the lounge, her face lit up the moment she saw her husband. Across the distance, his eyes shimmered with recognition, emotions welling up all at once. Without hesitation, they reached for each other’s hands, their fingers intertwining in a quiet yet powerful embrace that spoke of longing, resilience, and a love undiminished by time or illness.

Flanked by his sons and daughter-in-law, Mr Chan and his family then embarked on a captivating Bird Discovery walking tour through the aviaries. Guided by compassionate and attentive Wildlife Guides, they immersed themselves in the vibrant world of birds.

Joy in the Moment

At the Heart of Africa Aviary, Mr Chan hesitated at first when offered a feeding tray of mealworms for the starlings. But with his son’s reassuring hands by his side, he found the courage to try. His initial apprehension melted into awe when an African grey parrot swooped down and confidently claimed his tray as its own. Mr Chan’s eyes lit up with excitement, mirroring the pure joy of the moment.

At the Lory Loft, the family gathered on a shaded platform, surrounded by a dazzling flurry of lorikeets and lories. Mr Chan chuckled as a cheeky lorikeet landed on his tray, while Mrs Chan beamed with delight, enchanted by the feathery visitors.

After lunch, the dedicated Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS) volunteers, Caral, Joanna, and Kong Hoe, surprised the family with a heartfelt video montage, an ode to shared joy after a difficult journey.

The visit to Singapore Bird Paradise became a moment where health, family, and happiness came together. It was, quite simply, a day of celebration and bonding. A chapter the family will surely hold close to their hearts for years to come, thanks to this truly memorable wish experience.
