Even the grey sky and the delayed transport could not dampen the spirit of Mdm Tan Beng Choo, diagnosed with colon cancer with a prognosis of two weeks, as she looked forward to her wish of an outing at Gardens by the Bay. In the face of time constraints, the quick action to grant this wish demonstrates the critical nature of wish granting.
The dedicated Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS) volunteer team, Yasmin, Josephine, Reeyan, and Shi Yun, worked to ensure the day was seamless. The look of anticipation on Mdm Tan’s face as she was helped out of the transport was immediately replaced by a wide smile when she was presented with a bouquet of her favourite orchid and the AWS bear, Amby. With her husband and her son by her side, Mdm Tan was ready to enter the Gardens for a truly memorable wish experience.
A Bright Day Amidst the Blooms
Although she said little, it was not difficult to see and feel Mdm Tan’s excitement as the family walked around the Flower Dome, which was richly decorated with the theme of Christmas. The highlight of the day was when they went to the Orchid Garden at the Cloud Forest. Her face brightened visibly at the sight of her favourite flowers, orchids.
The day ended with lunch at Tunglok. Even though Mdm Tan is currently eating very little, she managed to finish half her porridge with curry fish head and sambal kangkong. She even had an appetite for a cold dessert, a beautiful testimony of a day gone well.
Love and Peace
The love and tenderness shown by the two Mr Ongs, father and son, was deeply touching, demonstrating a quiet readiness to face the eventuality together. In fulfilling Mdm Tan’s wishes within such a short timeframe, Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS) has not only given her but also her family the gift of love and peace.
