Love You 10,000 Years: Mdm Ng’s Wish Comes True with Andy Lau

In a cosy space aptly named Reminiscence room at Society For The Aged Sick (SAS), Mdm Ng, was surrounded with the love of family, volunteers, and her lifelong idol, Andy Lau.

In a collaborative effort of her family, Ambulance Wish Singapore, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Project Care, and SAS, we threw Mdm Ng a little get together Durian party with a screening of one of Andy Lau’s concerts.

Mdm Ng, 84-years-old, has been battling an aggressive cancer for years and is now in the final stages where all we can do is give her as much comfort and care in her remaining days. Despite currently being bed bound, Mdm Ng still has a clear mind. She still enjoys being engaged with the occasional game of mahjong on her tablet and listening to her favourite Andy Lau songs.

When she was greeted at her little party with a lifesize cut out of Andy Lau, her face broke into the hugest smile. You could say she’s his biggest fan, knowing all his songs by heart and yet still watch his concert recordings  with fresh focus each time.

During the party, AWS volunteers and her family  indulged in Mdm Ng’s sweet tooth with durian, longans, and chocolates – all Mdm Ng’s favourite sweets treats. The durian party winds to a close with the song 爱你一万年 (Love you 10,000 years) – one of Mdm Ng’s favourite tunes by Andy Lau. It’s a song about a heart that never changes, a love that surpasses the confines of time.

A big thank you to Ambulance Wish Singapore for putting this celebration together so quickly! Mdm Ng also commented how the AWS bear, Amby, given to her feels so similar to her beloved dog from years past. Cuddling the bear has been bringing her a lot of comfort and fond memories.
