Mdm Misliah, a remarkable 76-year-old woman, has always met life’s challenges with grace and a profound love for her family. Her deepest wish was simple yet meaningful: to gather her entire family together for a day filled with love, laughter, and a cherished portrait. This is the enduring power of wish granting: celebrating a life well-lived through the people who matter most.
On the afternoon of 15 December 2024, that wish was beautifully realised. Over 40 members of her closest family, spanning multiple generations, came together to celebrate the matriarch at the heart of their lives, thanks to the Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS) team and partners who created this memorable wish experience.
A Family Reunion Filled with Love
The venue, thoughtfully decorated with vibrant balloons by That Balloons, was filled with an overwhelming sense of warmth and togetherness. The gathering was a beautiful tapestry of laughter and heartfelt moments.
A touching video montage of Mdm Misliah’s life brought her journey to the forefront, evoking both smiles and tears. In a particularly joyful moment, her grandchildren lovingly carried her on a makeshift ‘throne’ for a whimsical photoshoot—a powerful display of their admiration for their beloved matriarch.
Thoughtful Touches and Joyful Celebrations
The family’s affection shone through in every detail. Her great-grandchildren presented her with a bouquet of her favourite flowers. The celebration also featured two special cakes: an ondeh-ondeh wish day cake for Mdm Misliah and a chendol birthday cake for her grandson, Iskandar, chosen in her favourite colour, green.
The atmosphere was lifted by a soulful live band performance from Anak Bapak Karaoke, with heartfelt singing from her grandchildren adding to the joy. Overcome with emotion, Mdm Misliah expressed her gratitude in both Malay and English, her loving spirit touching everyone as she embraced the AWS bear, calling it her ‘baby’.
