On Sunday, 4 May 2025, the Golden Village Max cinema at VivoCity buzzed with a spirit of warmth and community as Ambulance Wish Singapore was honoured to support the launch of Dear Inmates: Daily Emails to Prisoners, a heartfelt book by Dr Roger Tan.
The event brought together Roger’s family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate a work that embodies his deep belief in second chances, human dignity, and the transformative power of consistent kindness. Our role in helping facilitate this day was focused on creating a truly memorable shared experience for all attendees.
A Gathering Rooted in Compassion
Our Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS) volunteers, Lionel, Grace, Gina, May, Caral, and Lin Xin, helped create a welcoming atmosphere for the celebration. The occasion was particularly meaningful, reflecting Roger’s own journey and his mission to offer hope and connection to others.
As Roger autographed copies of his book, he penned personal words of gratitude, acknowledging the communities and individuals who supported him through his own battle with liver cancer. Each book serves not only as a collection of emails but as a powerful keepsake of resilience and our shared humanity.
Spreading Joy to Young Hearts
In the spirit of inclusivity and kindness that defines Roger’s work, children from Club Rainbow were specially invited to enjoy a screening of Marvel Superhero: Thunderbolts. The film brought laughter and excitement, adding a layer of joyful celebration to the afternoon.
As the theatre lights dimmed and the movie began, the smiles throughout the cinema made it clear that the day’s message was resonating deeply. For the 400 guests in attendance, the event was a poignant reminder that kindness, both on the page and in action, has the power to create profound and memorable shared experiences.
