From Fast Lanes to Quiet Reflections: Roy’s Peaceful Beach Wish

The former car enthusiast, who once raced on tracks in Malaysia, found his perfect moment in the gentle lapping of waves and shared hymns with close friends.

In a touching display of life coming full circle, AWS volunteers, Rain, Sher Maine, Maureen and Marienel fulfilled Roy’s wish – a quiet afternoon at Changi Beach where his parents once brought him as a child.

Roy’s transition from speed to serenity moved all involved. Volunteers prepared a thoughtful picnic featuring local favourites – beehoon, satay, fishballs and traditional desserts – while ensuring comfortable seating at the beach pavilion. The only nod to his automotive past came in his arrival, transported in a performance car that brought a quiet smile to his face.

Music and Memories by the Shore

As planes traced patterns across the midday sky, the group shared heartfelt renditions of “Amazing Grace” and other worship songs accompanied by volunteer Wong Sher Maine’s guitar. Roy’s quiet demeanour and repeated expressions of gratitude – “I don’t want to trouble all of you” – underscored his humble nature even during this special occasion.

In thanks, after the two-hour session, Roy sent a meaningful message:

“From my heart to yours, thank you for a memorable experience.”

Roy, thank you, too. For your prayers, sweet messages and showing us how you walk the final path with grace and humility.
